Review:I would like to start this review by saying that I enjoy spanking (which should be pretty obvious by now). However, I am not a submissive and am definitely not a slave. I will never address someone as Daddy and I would rather cut my tongue out than call someone Master. I think everyone’s definition of domestic discipline (DD) varies slightly. I consider it to be a loving relationship where both parties’ opinions and views are heard and considered, but decisions reside with one person. The head of the household is responsible for upholding the standards that both parties want to live by. I do not live in a domestic discipline arrangement, but I am certainly intrigued by them.
In my opinion, DD is vastly different from Dominance and submission (D/s). As I understand it, a submissive wife is expected to bend to her husband’s will without question. She adheres to rules not for her own well-being, but simply to please her husband. I am not into this at all. As a result, I did not care for “Diary of a Disciplined Bride” by Emily Winters.
Darcy is a shallow, flighty 21 year old girl who was spoiled by her wealthy parents her entire life. Tom is an established lawyer on the brink of becoming an assistant district attorney. It was blatantly obvious that Tom and all of his friends subscribe to what they refer to as DD (but I consider more like D/s) from the beginning of the book, even though Darcy had no idea. This goes against my idea of what DD should be. They dated for four years and Tom never once mentioned DD to Darcy. His friends decorated her bachelorette party with chocolate shaped bottoms and showered her in paddles and wooden spoons and she was completely clueless. Tom even shared this tidbit with her father when he asked for Darcy’s hand in marriage, but never thought to talk it over with his bride. I really didn’t like that Tom waited until after they were married before broaching the topic with his wife. It seemed as though she was railroaded into domestic discipline.
Soon after returning from their honeymoon, Tom informs Darcy that he has always believed in domestic discipline and would like her to go through submission training so that she can learn to live the lifestyle. Even though she was initially surprised by all of this, she agrees and for two weeks she is required to:
• Only wear skirts.
• Only wear undergarments of Tom’s choosing, even if that means no undergarments at all.
• Cook breakfast and dinner each day, and pack Tom’s lunch.
• Answer all of Tom’s questions with “Yes Sir” or “No Sir.”
• Sit at Tom’s knee while eating dinner, watching TV, or relaxing at home.
• Will not do anything at all without his permission (including using the bathroom)
• Clean daily, vacuuming, scrubbing the bathrooms, mirrors, do the ironing, and wash our clothes.
• Never refuse Tom when he wants to be intimate.
• Record any rule infractions in my diary.
• Never lie.
I did not take issue with most of these rules, but some of them really caused me angst. I really didn’t like the rule about sitting at Tom’s knee, but as I said before, I am a spanko; I am not a submissive. Consequently, I wasn’t too happy to see Darcy’s submission taken a step further when she was required to remain naked for a day, regardless of her mother’s presence.
While the underlying kink featured in this book isn’t one that I completely subscribe to, I must admit that there were many very interesting spanking scenes. Darcy entered her marriage a spoiled brat, thereby giving her new husband plenty of reasons to take her over his knee. For example, after Tom had taken all of her Daddy’s credit cards away from her, he asked her to abide by their new $300 budget and go to Wal-Mart to buy curtains for their new house as well as a new bath brush that Tom wanted. Appalled by the idea of shopping at Wal-Mart, Darcy decided to try and outwit her new husband and ends up receiving her first dose of punishment:
*********************
I told him I would do my best, put a brave smile on, and left. Then I got into the car and drove straight to the mall. At Lord and Taylor’s I got 8 different sets of drapes that match the decorating schemes I have in mind for each of the rooms, plus a very luxurious Soapanetta wooden bath brush with natural bristles and a smooth polished handle. I paid for it first with the cash and put the remaining $863.40 on my Daddy’s Master Card. Tom would never know because, then I went to Wal-Mart, bought a candy bar at the register and asked for a VERY large shopping bag. The cashier looked at me like me was crazy, tossed in my candy bar and receipt, then watched me suspiciously as I walked out the door. She probably thought I would steal something and put it into my large bag. As if I needed to. Can’t she tell these sandals are JimmyChoo?
When I got back to my car, I put the curtains from Lord and Taylor’s into the Wal-Mart bag, along with the bath brush, tossed the whole thing into the front seat and left. I drove home, feeling very pleased with myself. It would seem I could easily outwit Tom and have my own way. This could possible work out after all. Tom would end up thinking he had a very thrifty and clever wife, and I would still get the decorating of my dreams.
When I got home, Tom was working on sanding the back deck. He considered it to be an important project so we could entertain his co workers. I tossed the bag on the floor by the antique table we had picked up at Fran’s Antiques on Tuesday, and then went out to tell him I was home. He jumped up with a smile, kissed me, and then said he would get his tools and we could put up the curtains. We already had curtain rods that had been left behind by the last owner, but they needed to be installed.
Tom installed them, while I ran a quick errand to Mother and Daddy’s to get some sandwiches to Juanita’s. When I came back, I found Tom sitting in one of the antique dining chairs, holding a small slip of paper in his hands. “What’s that, sweetie?” I asked.
“A receipt,” he answered shortly. “For a candy bar. Where’s the receipt for the curtains, Darcy?”
“Oh, isn’t it in the bag? I guess I dropped it. Sorry.”
“Well, how much were they?”
“$300,” I said.
“Exactly $300?” Tom asked.
“Maybe a little less. I don’t really remember. Are you ready to put them up now?” I asked him.
“No I am not read to put them up, because we won’t be putting them up. How much was the Soapanetta bath brush, Darcy. Aren’t they kind of pricey?”
“Well it was on sale, I guess. It wasn’t much.” I lied. The bath brush had been about $40.
“They don’t sell Soapanetta at Wal-Mart, Darcy. Please stop lying to me and tell me what you did. Did you buy this stuff at Wal-Mart or not?” he asked.
“Of course, Tom. Just like you asked me to do.” I answered.
“So you’re going to keep lying to me, even when it’s obvious I know what’s going on?” he asked.
I gulped a little bit, and found I couldn’t meet Tom’s gaze. Then it all came out in a rush, how I wanted different curtains and I couldn’t believe he would ask me to buy curtains from Wal-Mart of all places, and how mean I thought that was, and if he would just let me use Daddy’s credit cards I could have the whole house looking just the way I wanted to and it wouldn’t cost him a dime. That was when he stood up and came about 2 inches away from me and looked right in my face.
“Just stop right there. What credit cards. I got rid of those in Hawaii. You mean there are more? Why didn’t you tell me then? That’s it Darcy. I was going to ease you into this slowly, but I can see now that I’m going to have to make an impact on you in order to help you understand my feelings about your spending, and the way I want things done. Come here.”
I walked with him over to the chair, feeling a little breathless. Why was Tom, my sweet Tom being so mean? Why couldn’t he jut let me shop the way I wanted to? He sat down in the chair and roughly pulled me across his lap, the way he had in Hawaii when he was inspecting my butt plug. This time though, he roughly pulled up my skirt, revealing my thong clad bottom and began spanking me hard with his hands, punctuating each smack with his words.
“I am not a rich man …SMACK… and I will not be lied to …SMACK… you will spend our money more wisely …SMACK… or there will be consequences …SMACK… you are no longer a princess in a palace …SMACK… you are my wife …SMACK… and you have a new standard to live by …SMACK… and from now on …SMACK… if you disobey me …SMACK… or lie to me …SMACK… this is what is going to happen. At which point my beloved Tom began to rapidly spank my already sore bottom with the $40 Soapanetta bath brush, over and over until I was crying and begging him to stop.

While this book is full of delicious spanking scenes, it is also full of typos (as you can see from the excerpt above). I wasn’t sure if this was intentional since this is supposed to be Darcy’s diary, but I found the errors to be distracting. These errors in conjunction with the fact that the book dives into submission a little further than I care to is why I won’t be reading this book again. If submission appeals to you, however, than this book may be right for you. |

This is my favorite spanking book. The author has lived the D/S life and incorporates her experiences in a fictionalized tale. There is a lot of hard spanking play, but they are very authentic and hot.
This novel reminds me of The Story of O. It is the journey of Darcy, a beautiful and spoiled brat, into the life of a loving slave. If you are into the D/s life you will relate to this story. Besides the spanking, the narrative is very erotic and contains vivid sexual content.
If you love Emaily Winter's blog site, you will also enjoy this book.

I think the book is awesome. Just because u don't like a D/s lifestyle does not mean its a poor book. The love between the characters is evident and its beautifully written. It takes u on a journey & sucks u in. I recommend it as a read.
